Notes · English hub
Two topics cover most of the first month
The full article archive (8+ pieces) is written in Chinese. This English hub translates the two starting points — the desk-body reset and the JKD first month — so you can judge the teaching style before reading further.
01 · The desk body
How to start training when you sit 8+ hours a day
The problem, stated plainly
Claim: a desk body is not a character flaw — it is a training load that has never been trained for.
Long sitting shortens the front of the hips, dulls the glutes, and pushes the head forward. Standard gym plans often add load on top of that misalignment; martial arts training starts by removing it.
The reset sequence (after long sitting)
- Stand up and walk 2 minutes — before any stretching.
- Hip flexor release: 45 seconds per side, gentle.
- Wall slide: 8 slow reps, ribs down.
- Weight shift: 1 minute, mid-foot, knees soft.
- Then — only then — start standing practice.
Go deeper: the full Chinese article is 久坐 8 小时后的身体重置; related pieces are listed in the Chinese notes index.
02 · JKD basics
Your first month of Jeet Kune Do: four things only
The four things
- Stance. On-guard, weight mid-foot, shoulders released — 5 minutes daily.
- Footwork. Advance, retreat, lateral step — slow is a feature, not a bug.
- Breathing. Quiet, below the navel, no holding during movement.
- One strike. The straight lead, on air and on pads, hands relaxed.
What to skip in month one
- Sparring of any intensity.
- Combinations beyond the straight lead.
- Equipment purchases beyond pads.
- Comparing yourself to highlight clips.
Why so little: month one builds the structure that everything else sits on. The full Chinese article is JKD 第一个月练什么; the systems overview is on Systems.
