Two systems, explained the way an engineer would want

This page condenses the three Chinese system pages into English: what Jeet Kune Do and Zhan Zhuang actually are, what training contains, and how to choose. Deep detail (drill lists, standards, FAQs per system) stays on the Chinese pages.

In short: Jeet Kune Do trains practical fighting skills — stance, footwork, strikes and interception; Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation from Dacheng Quan) trains posture, breathing and whole-body connection by standing still. Taught together, structure comes first, then motion.

01 · Jeet Kune Do

What Jeet Kune Do is — and what a session contains

Definition

JKD is Bruce Lee's practical fighting method: a non-committed on-guard stance, efficient footwork, direct strikes, and interception — attacking the opponent's attack. As taught here it is a skill system, not a set of rituals.

Full Chinese page: Jeet Kune Do.

What training contains (first 3 months)

  • On-guard stance and relaxed shoulders — checked, not assumed.
  • Footwork: advance, retreat, lateral step; 3 drills only.
  • Three strikes on pads with relaxed hands.
  • Light interception drills with a cooperative partner.
  • No full-contact sparring in the first month.

Good fit if you…

  • Want a practical skill with clear progress markers.
  • Can attend or stream one guided session per week.
  • Accept that pads and drills come before anything flashy.

Poor fit if you…

  • Want forms, belts or performance routines.
  • Expect sparring in week one.
  • Are looking for movie choreography.

02 · Zhan Zhuang (standing meditation)

What standing practice is — and how it is checked

Definition

Zhan Zhuang is the core practice of Dacheng Quan: standing still in a checked posture so that alignment, breath and whole-body connection can be rebuilt. It is a physical training method with testable standards — not a religious ritual.

Full Chinese page: Dacheng Quan & Zhan Zhuang.

Posture checklist (the five points)

  • Head: crown lifted, chin slightly tucked.
  • Shoulders: released down, elbows heavy.
  • Hips: sitting slightly, as if on a high stool.
  • Knees: soft, not locked; weight mid-foot.
  • Breath: quiet, below the navel, no forcing.

Good fit if you…

  • Sit 8+ hours a day with neck / back / hip complaints.
  • Want a low-impact practice with measurable duration gains.
  • Prefer calm training you can do anywhere.

Poor fit if you…

  • Expect instant results without daily practice.
  • Cannot stand for 3 minutes without a medical clearance.
  • Want a sweaty workout as the main goal.

FAQ

Systems questions in English

What is Jeet Kune Do in simple words?
A practical fighting method from Bruce Lee: a mobile on-guard stance, simple direct strikes, and interception — reacting to the opponent's attack with your own. Here it is trained as skills, not rituals. Details: Chinese system page.
What is Zhan Zhuang standing meditation?
The core standing practice of Dacheng Quan. You hold a checked posture — five points from head to breath — and let duration grow from about 3 minutes toward 12. It rebuilds posture and breathing; it is not religious. Details: Chinese system page.
My legs shake when standing. Is that normal?
Mild shaking in the first weeks is common and usually settles with shorter holds and correct weight distribution. Pain (not fatigue) or dizziness means stop and get it checked. The Chinese article Zhan Zhuang leg shaking covers the judgment rules.
Which system should a complete beginner start with?
Most desk workers start with Zhan Zhuang twice a week plus one JKD session — standing fixes the structure, JKD tests it in motion. The free 30-minute first consultation settles it for your body and schedule: contact.
Where can I read the deep material?
The three Chinese pages — JKD, Dacheng Quan, methodology — carry drill lists, standards and full FAQs. The English notes hub summarizes what matters most.
